Whilst we have just moved into the summer months the Wests Greater Northern Rugby League Academy will not be holding back and will play the Central Coast Centurions in trial games at Scully Park, Tamworth, on Saturday 11th December 2010 from 3pm.

The Central Coast Centurions will be bringing players from their Under 16’s and Under 18’s teams to trial against the Academy teams. The Centurions are a joint venture between the Central Coast RL, CRL and the Newcastle Knights. The teams give players in the Central Coast and Hunter region another option to play in the NSWRL Junior representative competition. The Under 16’s team compete in the Harold Matthews competition, whilst the Under 18’s team competes in the SG Ball competition against all the Sydney clubs.

The Centurions will use the trial to finalise their squads for the 2011 competitions which will kick off on the 19th February.

This unusual scenario of playing in December came about from a request from the Central Coast team. Head Coach of the Wests Greater Northern Academy, James McCormack said, “we had a phone call asking if we would consider having a trial in early December. After some thought we decided that the trials could be beneficial to both the Academy and the Centurions.”

The trials will allow the Wests Greater Northern Academy staff to assess their players implementing the skills which have been taught over the past month.

The games will commence at 3pm, with the second game scheduled to start at approximately, 4.45pm.

The Academy squad will break after these games and return to the training paddock on the 16th January 2011.
