AAMI COUNTRY V CITY ORIGIN COUNTRY V CITY VIDEO
Country V City (Sydney) has long played a part in New South Wales sporting history, with the first traces of the concept being linked back as far as 1886. It wasn't however till 1911 that Rugby League first adopted the concept as a regular part of the sport's representative fixtures.

The representative match was played on a laize-faire basis in League up until 1928 when the Country Rugby League and New South Wales Rugby League saw the value in making the tournament an annual match. This was understandable at the time for League, as many areas in Country NSW had not even heard of League, let alone seen the code till closer to 1928.

By the time the match was made a permanent fixture, interest in the concept was high enough to make it sustanable, the only problem for the clash was it saw a large number of the best players from Country Rugby League snapped up by the richer Sydney clubs, draining the regional representative sides, and as a result assisting City to dominate the concept.

It wasn't till 1987 that the issue was addressed of `player drain' especially with the recent inclusions of Canberra, Illawarra and Newcastle in the NSWRL competition. The Origin rule, which was also used to revive the State of Origin concept proved to be quite valuable in giving Country the basis it has needed to be a lot more competitive outfit, it however wasn't till 1992 that they men in Maroon and Gold recorded their first victory however in the new style competition.

Since adopting the new 'Origin' Structure, 18 matches have been played, with Country winning 7 and City winning 11.
